Luke 12: 20-21 But God said to him, “You fool!  This very night your soul is required of you (the Greek fuller meaning is-On this night, your soul, they are demanding from you) and now who will own what you have prepared?” So is the man who stores up treasure for himself, and is not rich toward God.

Presumption has stopped this man’s unction to function.

What were the tell-tale signs?

1. He began reasoning to and relying on himself. (verse 17)- 6 “I’s” over 3 verses.

2. He listened to the wrong voices and had ruled God’s voice out (verse 18 and 20)

3. He became willful and accountable to himself. He set his course with his considered intentions (v. 18)

4. He was not prudent but showed reckless extravagance and greed (verse 18)-The lust of the eyes.

5. He was selfish and self-centred and was not thinking of anyone else (verse 18)

6. He was materialistic (verse 18) “My grain”=Migraine!

7. He was soulish and not spiritually-minded (verse 19)

8. He was presumptuous-he had discounted God and deemed that he would live on in this way (v. 19)

9. He became at ease (verse 19) –The boastful pride of life.

10. He became worldly and set out to satisfy the lust of the flesh (verse 19)

Who is the “they” in verse 20 that demanded this man’s soul, if not the satanically accusing and demanding demonic spirits who watch and stir, seeking the opportunity to discredit the individual before God, and if legally entitled to do so, bearing in mind God’s justice, will demand the soul and life of that man.

Be rich toward God!
