THOTS Small Thoughts: When the Sun was covered the Holy of Holies was uncovered!

Luke 23: 44-45 It was now about the sixth hour and darkness fell over the whole land until the ninth hour, because the sun was obscured and the veil of the temple was torn in two.”

From 12pm to 3pm there was darkness on that holy of holy days.

Know that this was no eclipse, for the Passover season was at the time of the full moon. The moon was on the opposite side of the sun from the Earth.

The prophet Amos recorded hundreds of years before that,

“It will come about in that day, declares the Lord God that I will make the sun go down at noon, and make the earth dark in broad daylight.” (Amos 8:9).

What caused the darkness?

It was the hour of the power of darkness. And God’s Judgement of man’s sin in Messiah fell due. And so the sun was obscured.

The three days of brooding darkness that hung around a rebellious people many years ago, leading up to that first Passover in Egypt, here became just three hours.

But, there appears to be an additional reason why it was this supernaturally dark, as indicated in the next part of that verse (45),

“becauseand the veil of the temple was torn in two.”

So the other reason for the abnormal darkness therefore, was due to God’s previously darkened room of the Holy of Holies, now being exposed, made open, unto all who would dare approach boldly…available because of the perfect and complete sacrifice for sin in Jeshua, now and for all time.

But only through the body broken and the shed, pure blood of He who was, and is, the Sun of righteousness.

This Sun, now having risen, with healing in His wings.

Go tell someone.

Be the light of the world.

Shine in Darkness.

Do it.

For three hours…

Three days…

Three years…

For even…

Three score years and ten.

THE PSALMS: Book 1; Psalm 5

PRAYER My words, My cry, My voice. Ordered in the morning to You. I will watch.

GOD’S CHARACTER and COMPANY No wickedness. No evil. No boastfulness. No iniquity. No falsehood. No bloodshed or deceit.

AS FOR ME I will enter in and bow in reverence for You. Lead me. Make Your way straight before me.

AS FOR THEM Unreliable. Inward destruction. Open grave throat and tongue of flattery.

PRAYER TAKE ACTION Hold the rebellious guilty. Let the rebellious fall. Thrust the rebellious out.

PRAYER  Let all who take refuge in you be glad and ever sing for joy. Shelter them. To exult in You.

PROCLAMATION You bless the righteous. You surround him with favor as with a large shield.

This Psalm is to flute accompaniment.  The sound made by the flow of air across an opening; a vibration. The use of the flute first mentioned in 1 Samuel 10:5 in use with prophesying, and later with groaning and praising and joy and dance and worship. Yet a lifeless thing, until a distinction of the tones is played and made known. Let everything that has breath praise the Lord! May the breath you exhale from the chamber of your being, cause distinctive praise to come forth, and in the process, may His Spirit turn your mourning into dancing.

Amos 1:2 The Lord roars from Zion, and from Jerusalem He utters His voice.

WE would do well to take HEED!

Amos 1:1 The words of Amos, among the sheepherders from Tekoa.

WE would do well to notice the poor who LEAD.

Amos 1:3-2:16 Thus says the Lord, for three transgressions….and for four I will not revoke its punishment.

WE would do well to not break His CREED!

Amos 2:6 Because they sell the righteous for money, and the needy for a pair of sandals.

WE would do well to deplore the GREED

And the corruption and injustice of those in NEED!

Amos 2:7 And a man and his father resort to the same girl.

WE would do well to avoid all sexual immorality in DEED!

Amos 2:8 …stretch out beside every altar, and in the house of their God they drink the wine of those who have been fined.

WE would do well to avoid all rebellion and idolatry to which they SPEED!

Amos 3:6 If a calamity occurs in a city has not the Lord done it?

WE would do well to repent and penitently PLEAD.

Amos 3:7-8 Surely the Lord God does nothing unless he reveals His secret counsel to His servants the prophets,

A lion has roared! Who will not fear? The Lord God has spoken, who can but prophesy?

WE would do well to listen to His prophets and from Amos READ!

Amos 3:10 “But they do not know how to do what is right,” declares the Lord, “those who hoard up violence and devastation in their citadels.”

WE would do well to bind up those who BLEED.

Amos 3:12 Thus says the Lord “Just as the shepherd snatches from the lion’s mouth a couple of legs or a piece of an ear. So will the sons of Israel be snatched away.”

Thanks be to God, that even part of an ear can hear and two legs can still run toward the Messiah of Israel, in His Day to come….where they will indeed be FREED!

Amos 5:15 Perhaps the Lord God of hosts may be gracious to the remnant of Joseph.

All because of HIM who came as the Holy One of Israel, born of a virgin, the Holy SEED.

Amos 5:24 But let justice roll down like waters, and righteousness like an ever-flowing stream.

Let US pluck up the courage to pull out the unrighteous WEED!

And thank God He has planted Israel once more in the land, no longer a swaying REED.

Amos 9:15 I will also plant them on their land and they will not again be rooted out from their land which I have given them,” says the Lord your GOD.

To pray for the peace of Jerusalem, and learn from these lessons how not to IMPEDE,

God’s righteous and just course, His kingdom to SUCCEED!

By the By

What is in the left hand?

Then give it away.

THE PSALMS: Book 1; Psalm 4

In your distress, like DAVID did, YOU too can…

PRAY, REBUKE the enemy, PROCLAIM aloud His truths for yourself, EXHORT, and PRAY some more!

Is your righteousness (v1)

Relieves you (v1)

Is gracious toward you (v1)

Has set you apart for Himself (v3)

Hears you (v3)

Lifts up the light of His countenance upon you (v6)

Puts gladness in your heart (v7)

Gives you peace-to lie down and sleep (v8)

Makes you to dwell in safety (v8)

He alone can be relied upon!

THE PROVERBS: Proverbs 1: 8-9

Hear my son, your father’s instruction, And do not forsake your mother’s teaching.

Indeed, they are a graceful wreath to your head, And ornaments about your neck.

Do you realise how beautiful you look today?

With that golden chain around your neck.

And how honourable and victorious you must feel, to wear that kingly wreath about your head.

Now, walk tall.

And if you are one who still teaches your sons, then know that both father and mother are instrumental and necessary in passing on God’s liberating law.

Let it come from your lips rather than from the lips of any ‘professional’ teachers, lying schoolmates, or liberal entertainment industry.

And if you are that son,

Then “Hear”!

After all, who doesn’t want beauty, victory, grace, honour, and life?
