THE PSALMS: Book 1; Psalm 2

“Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!”

“Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!”

“Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha! Ha, ha, ha, ha, ha!”

(v4) He who sits in the heavens laughs, The Lord scoffs at them!

Make this proclamation then, toward the peoples, the kings of the earth, the rulers, and judges of the earth, that take counsel against the LORD and His Messiah:

“LET YOUR KINGDOM COME!”

(v8) Ask of me and I will surely give the nations as your inheritance, and the very ends of the earth as your possession.

McCHUNKS Bigger Thoughts:Before we say “I do”, we must first say “I will”

Luke 22:17-18 And when He had taken a cup and given thanks, He said “Take this and share it among yourselves, for I say to you I will not drink of the fruit of the vine from now on until the kingdom of God comes.”

Here is the “day” (v7) and the “hour” (v14) which we knoweth. That of Passover.

Jesus earnestly shared this Passover with the apostles before He suffered.

He awaits the day and the hour when He can once again eat and drink at its fulfillment in the kingdom of God.

Note below (at the bottom), the order of cups at the Passover seder and their references to God’s divine actions and in Yeshua, their fulfillment.

Luke makes mention, unlike the other gospel accounts, of a cup that Jesus instructed to be shared amongst themselves (ourselves), and after giving thanks, He passed it to them (us). This cup was given BEFORE the third cup of redmeption (in His blood) and was the FIRST cup the disciples had to do something with.

It was “a” cup (v17), not “the” cup (the latter referring then to the cup of redemption; that cup poured out for us, being the new covenant in His blood, where upon we, after receiving it, would drink, and as the “bride”, would be saying “I do” to the Bridegroom’s offer of covenant).

As thanks had been given by Jesus for this (first) cup, we can suppose that this referred to the first cup of the seder, which is that referring to the cup of freedom or sanctification, whereby, “in remembrance”, we remember, that God took they, whom were slaves, out from under the burdens of the Egyptians.(Ex 6:6) And then and now, with its fulfillment IN JESUS, we participate, and as often as we do so, we do so, remembering HIM. So the background is, in remembering God’s great deliverance of all Israel, and in the foreground is God’s great deliverance of all (of those who participate in this new covenant).

So what does this mean for us, that we must “Take this (first cup) and share it amongst ourselves”?

If we look at John’s account, we see paralleled, BEFORE the taking of the bread and the third cup, the act of servanthood demonstrated, one to the other, where Jesus, as servant of all, washed the disciples feet and instructed (us) to do the same.

Perhaps our Doctor Luke was concerned with the fact that we too, should be concerned with sharing the burdens of the rest of the body of believers about us, just as “we all” were once slaves (to sin). And we who are freed, can set others free also.

Consider these supporting Scriptures:

Brethren, even if anyone is caught in any tresspass, you who are spiritual restore such a one in a spirit of gentleness…bear one another’s burdens and thereby fulfil the law of Christ. (Gal 6:1-2)

If I then, the Lord and Teacher, washed your feet, you also ought to wash one anothers feet. (John 13:14)

Truly, truly, I say to you, a slave is not greater than his master, nor is one who is sent greater than the one who sent him. (John 13:16)

For he who eats and drinks, eats and drinks judgement to himself, if he does not judge the body rightly. (1Cor 11:29)

Moses knew what it was like to bear the burdens of the people…I alone am not able to carry all this people, because it is too burdensome for me. (Num 11:1)

Let us also consider what the opposite is (of the scribes and the Pharisees): They tie up heavy burdens and lay them on men’s shoulders, but they themselves are unwilling to move them with so much as a finger. (Matt 23:4)

But He said, “Woe to you lawyers as well! For you weigh men down with burdens hard to bear, while you yourselves will not even touch the burdens with one of your fingers. (Luke 11:46)

So then, what are we to do?

A new commandment I give to you, that you love one another, even as I have loved you, that you love one another. By this, all men will know that you are my disciples, if you have love for one another. (Jn 13:34-35)

Let us fulfil the law of Christ and bear one anothers burdens.

For surely, this is what YHWH did for the Israelites FIRST, bringing them out from under the burdens of the Egyptians!

When are we to do this?

It is of FIRST priority.

Exodus 6:6-7

  • The Cup of Freedom – based on God’s statement, “I will bring you out from under the burdens of the Egyptians”
  • The Cup of Deliverance- based on God’s statement, “I will deliver you from slavery to them”
  • The Cup of Redemption – based on God’s statement, “I will redeem you with an outstretched arm”
  • The Cup of Restoration  – based on God’s statement, “I will take you to be my people, and I will be your God”

Let us therefore, FIRST, be washed and wash one another’s feet.

With the Cup of Sanctification and Freedom.

“I will”
